Home use chips get used a lot less than they do in casino's so your hot stamping should last quite a while. The chips that I showed above were pulled out of the casino before they got a lot of use but they do hold up well over the years.
I wish I could show you pics of casino chips that were heavily used with stamping. Some that had initials on them had bits of the initial worn off completely after years of constant use. While the shine was no longer there you could still make out the lettering well.
I'd be interested in seeing what custom stamp design you're thinking about using.
