Faux clays and labels
I have recently sold a 500 Nexgen chip set with custom labels (from Lynbark who was very helpful and patient with my designs). I was pretty happy with it but I was offered an insane amount or it. I was also starting to spend too much time looking at ASMs and I was almost decided to take the dive.
After deciding for the ASMs from pokerchips.com I was sure I needed a cheap chip set to get along with before the ASMs were ready. After reading a lot of great things about the Faux clays it looked like the best buy.
I decided I would put labels on these too as there were some positive comments about it. Jason did a great work on these.
After receiving the Fauxs I noticed I wouldn't be comfortable labeling them.
First of all the center is not recessed enough to accommodate the labels without making the chips feel more slippery. It happens because sometimes the labels will touch each other and this time I have not taken the time to spray them with anything. The Fauxs are not slippery at all at natural conditions and I am using paper labels.
When you start applying the labels I found out that due to the fact the labels are a little bigger than the 'recessed' center it is hard to center them. As my design has a circle it is very easy to spot this problem.
Lastly (and well noted on the reviews) they have the injection mark in the recessed circle that prevent you from pressing the labels on the sides. I am going through each chip with a rounder exacto blade and cutting out the injection marks. It helps as much as it takes time. By the way the label kind of hides the blemishes in the way as it has to be pressed on the recessed circle as well.
Before I get flamed by Faux lovers it is important to say that they are great chips at their price and that the labels do stick to their textured center. But I wouldn't recommend them for anyone who looks to put labels on their chips. I should have gone for Sopranos as they are cheap and looks good without labels.
The chips are turning out fine in the looks but they have lost one of the things I have bought them for: they were not slippery.
Bottom line is that if you want a label on your chips go for Nexgens even if you have to wait to save the additional money.
