| What I usually see that works best is to stack chips in piles that relate to (1) either the big blind amount, or (2) something easily counted and understood.
For example in a 10/20 game, it makes sense to stack red $5 chips in piles of 4 or 8 if you are betting some multiple of the BB. For example to bet $100, I see people putting a large stack of 20 ($100) in their hand, then counting off 5 stacks of 4 (or 4 stacks of 5). Of course some people just push a stack of 20 over the line and let it spill, but that's not good manners IMO.
If you're raising someone in a limit game, I also see people holding 2 stacks of the limit bet in one hand, like you're going to shuffle them, and pushing them across the line like that.
I think it's the dealer's responsibility in a B&M game to make sure the pot's right. And the more you can help the dealer count quickly, the better for everyone. |
