Can somebody who is skilled enough in excel help me creating a formula to do a simple function?

I know what i want to do, but am not too versed in excel to do it...

OK, here's the dilemma...

I'm making a excel sheet for my gambling earnings/losses....

I have made columns, such as:
Date of Wagers
Location
Amount
Type of Game Played
W / L (win or loss)
Subtotal
Grand Total...

Basically what im trying to do is....
have the computer determine whether the W/L column is a "W" (win) or a "L" (loss)...

after determining that, i want it to do the following calculations accordingly,

If its a "W" then "Grand Total" + "Subtotal"
If its a "L" then "Grand Total" - "Subtotal"


I would also need a formula determining the Subtotal...

So something like
If its a "W" then Subtotal = + "Amount"
If its a "L" then Subtotal = - "Amount"

does that make any sense?

I have the idea in my head, but just cant figure out whether to use DSUM or IF or AND or what functions...

any help is more than appreciated....
