$1 = Blue (my preference) or White
$5 = Red
$25 = Green
$100 = Black
$500 = Purple
$1000 = Yellow
$5000 = Pink

But I'm more of a traditionalist and only my opinion.

The rest ($0.25 $0.50, $2, $3, $4, $10, $50, $10,000+) should be any color you want. The creativity and uniqueness of a chip comes from the inlay design and the edge spot colors, not necesarily the base color of the chip. The chip colors above seem to be common and I believe casinos have stardized on at least the Red, Green, Black and Purple. I read somewhere (and of course I don't have the details) but the moral of the story was that a new casino opened up and made a black $1 chip - the others freaked out thinking that confussion could arise if the $1 black chips were brought in and mixed up with their $100 Black chips.

Again, just my opinion - but for your chips in your game - get and use what you like.
