PC.COM ASM chip quality?

HI Guys This is my first post and I wanted to say this is a great new site I have been reading a few sites for the last couple of weeks and I really like what I have seen.
My question is about the quality of the pokerchips.com (ASM) chips. So people have said they break easy and I am wondering if this is really a problem? I don't usually throw chips against the wall or drop the same chip 7 times on a concrete floor. What about as the chips get older? Do they get more britle or stronger?
I am playing with a design with a Colorado theme that I will post when I get closer to what I want but I think I want clay instead of chipco but I can't get a 100,000 chip order like ten has with Paulson so I would need to go with pc.com
Ten your site and chips rock!

Don't know anything about ASM chips (but general opinion seems good), however if you want other custom clay options, Nevada Jacks apparently makes custom Clays (Blue Chips). I think you can also go to Blue Chip directly somehow (don't know any contact info). There was some discussion about this on the texasholdempoker forum.

i think that, that post you are referring to, the guy that made the custom blue chips was not pleased with blue chip's customer service dept.

ASM chips

Just received my ASM samples from PC.COM.

At first I was put off by the metal shavings shoving on the rolling edge, but I think that with the right colors they will look good.

Tried the "break a chip"-trick with an imperial blue/white edgespots. Not possible breaking it with my fingers but 5-7 good drops on a hardwood floor resulted in a chip broken along an edgespot....but what do you expect?! I'd never treat my chips that way....again

Anyway to sum it up, I like the chips - but am split between the ASMs and the TR Kings......mainly due to the shavings...they do take a bit ofgetting used to..

I did the Pokerchips.com review on this forum.

Pokerchips.com Review

As I stated in the review I love the chips and you do not really notice the flakes after a while. I also have had my one and two year old get into the chips. Not one was broken and believe me they did not treat them nice. The chips ar now in a place where they can not get them just in case.

Good luck and keep us posted on your design and progress. It is fun keeping up with all of the different custom chips being designed.

My 7 yr. old loves poker chips. I gave him all of the samples I collected.
I guess I am already creating the next generation of "Chip Junkies".

I have some ASM Horsehead chips from Kardwell, and also a bunch of samples of the Palmas Club Horseheads. But I don't have any other chips directly from ASM/pokerchips.com. (I like the "A" mold, it has the logo for my Atlanta Braves!)

The Horsehead mold is one of my favorites, absolutely classy. My Kardwell/Palmas chips have excellent colors (even better when oiled and/or broken in) and edge spots. After oiling, they seem even sturdier than new. The fine texture on the clay surface feels great to me.

They hold up very well to normal play, but I haven't thrown them on concrete or dropped them from a building to see if they break. Obviously they do, but so does a Rolex watch if you try that.

My Horseheads are a teeny, tiny bit larger in diameter than Paulsons or Blue Chips, but that's no problem. The metal shavings in the clay are to make them heavier (I'm told) and for security. I don't mind these at all, they just add to the character as far as I'm concerned.

While ASMs are not my favorite chip, I wouldn't worry much about them breaking.

I remember this topic came up a while back (on 2+2?), and someone said that it was impossible to break them with just your hands. Like an idiot, I tried, and I did manage to break one with my hands , but it was quite tough.
