seems like a mess

viewing all the chips 1$ and all the huff over it should be this or that. You would have thought that over the years a standard would have fixed this little pain in the butt. we all know red is 5$, green, is 25$ black is100$ wouldn`t it be easier to have a standard. so as not to be so confusing from place to place. just imagine if there was no denoms on these color switching value chips. I`m sure someone out there could come up with a color chart and take it to up to 25,000 chips if neccessary. I`ve seen chocolate chips as 5,000. give your thought`s on this mess.

I think there was a general consensus for years in Vegas for the standard colors of $5 Red, $25 Green, $100 Black, $500 Purple. Then things started to go all over the place. The $1 chips are about evenly split between White & Blue. $1,000 chips are Yellow or Orange, $5,000 chips are often Gray, and $2.50 chips are usually Pink. But still some oddballs.

California card clubs had a different set of colors, a la the Vineyards and others. Most didn't use the Vegas colors, and added new denominations ... maybe they just made up what they wanted for artistic reasons?

I understand that New Jersey specifies the colors you must use -- I think it's $1 White, $2.50 Pink, $5 Red, $25 Green, $100 Black, $500 Purple, $1,000 Orange, and $5,000 Gray. Then with poker rooms, they added $10 Blue and $20 Yellow.

For small-stakes Poker cash games, now there are 25¢ and 50¢ chips, but with inconsistent color schemes.

I like traditional colors, so I'd choose the Nevada/New Jersy color scheme for $5-$25-$100-$500, with white or blue for $1 and Yellow for $1,000, and Pink for $2.50 if you're going to play Blackjack. I don't see the need for $2-$3-$10-$20-$50 chips....

Speaking of... Can someone post the official chip colors for all chips in say, the 2004 WSOP? Pictures to go with it would be great.

Well yeah, I've understand that. But I still say use $1 & $5 chips in limit games -- that's what we do for 1-2, 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, 6-12 and 10-20 games.

If I'm paying a lot for good quality chips, I hate to buy $2 & $3 (or $10 & $20) chips that will only get limited usage. I'd rather just get more $1 and $5 and be flexible. But if you are sure that you'll always be playing 2-4 or 3-6, then by all means get lots of $2 and $3 chips....

Well, so much for using THEM as a standard. Light purple for $100, and pink for $500 and $10,000.

Actually $500 is Hot Pink, not regular pink.
