I am going through this chip purchase thing with my wife also because of the group buy here. I think anyone with a wife has to go through this. I am planning on investing in these chips for resale down the road and getting a set for myself. I am also contemplating selling my current set to help offset cost also. I think this is a unique opportunity to get a extremely well designed and unique set of chips that will instantly increase in value. That is my argument.

KS and others,
Back when my wife was my girlfriend, she let me buy whatever I wanted, she really didn't get a say. Now... KS, if you think things won't change, you are in for a rude awakening.
As for chips... good luck man. I made one big... ok, make that 3 big, big, mistakes. First, I bought 300 diamond chips way back before poker was big for $50. Then I got 1250 Vegas Pro Clays for too much money, I think I paid like $300 for all 1250 of em. Then, I got a set of 500 "custom" NEXGENS for $150 total. Now I want something more, better, whathaveyou. Basically, I want my $500 back to get a set of really nice chips. My wife has given me the "no way" and really, there is no way I can justify it.
If you don't have chips now, show her this email and explain to her that you are saving money in the long run by getting what you want now rather than later. If you have chips, then you are just going to have to wait, like me, until enough time passes so that she forgets what you spent before and it seems like a totally new purchase.
I don't know what your situation is, but really, $1000 on chips is kind of an extreme extravagance, if you are married with children and an oppressive mortgage, like me...

Wow guys - I seem to be the minority here (and I don't feel left out).
My wife actually enjoys playing poker & supports my chip obesssion (as long as it doesn't get too far out of control) . To be honest, she probably even started my chip fixation the first time we went to Vegas, when she stashed away a few $0.50 & $1 chips for 'keepsakes'.
I am being completely serious.

Community property laws. It's not that she "has you by the balls," it's (usually) the law.

Here's a novel idea for buying the new Pharaoh's. Try this line of bullhockey we hear it all the time. "Honey, I saved you so much money. These were on sale for .89. They are regularly $1.25 each! See, look at this site (click to Trademark here). And I even got a custom design for free! Can you believe it!"
